2.00

I was the middle man of a 20.00 cash transfer for full tilt for a friend and myself due to him not having his information filled out. I asked him to spot me 2.00 bucks for a sit and go, and he was okay with that. I bought into a 1.25 9 player SNG for a pay out of 4.50, 2.70, and 1.80. I won first place.

I took the 4.50 and decided to try another SNG and I hit 3rd place after a big suck out. I then played another SNG and got 2nd. I found that my style of play was perfect for SNG's. I play much better over a stretch of time with the same individuals with increasing blinds.

I then played 2 games later and lost both; coming to the realization that I was just playing casually again and letting my overall skill drop. I then hit another first place putting me ahead again. I then lost 5 in a row, big pocket pairs losing to under dog pairs and flopping 2 pair and losing to runner runners and a couple of sets.

To make a long story short I ran my 2.00 little bank roll all the way up to 15.00 and then I sent the 2.00 back to my buddy doing the 10.00 transfer and he sent me my 8.00 back. I then got in a huge argument with my father and went and played a 5.50 game and lost and basically lost everything after the fight.

When I start playing on Full Tilt again and actually do my first Load I am positive with my style play that I will be very successful with my future 9 man SNG's.

I think what I am going to do is just load 50.00 a week and try and start playing the 2.50 games with the first place 9.00 pay out. I did a couple of those and spank my competition.

The morale of this ramble and story is playing something that you are good at, that fits your style, and not to play stakes you can't afford. otherwise i probably would be in the 20.00 field right now, slowly working my way up but surely.

A little Taste of my Book

Poker Theory

There are many ways to analyze and breakdown poker in the efforts of winning. The most basic approach to poker is taking it straight to the cards; but anyone can just play their cards; all they need is two cards in front of them and a stack of chips. Obviously those novice and beginner players don't do to well consistently and are sought after by the many casino sharks that lurk, looking to devour there next victim. In this book, I will be covering more about the mind game of poker, strategy, the concept of war, and specifically NL Texas Hold em. You will always hear people talk about what the most important thing there is to poker and here is your answer; everything. In a war you want to have all the available resources, intelligence, man power, mobility, and luck. In poker it is essential to develop all areas of expertise. Your position, betting, reading your opponent, knowledge of opponents overall play style, folding, bluffing and the list goes on.

The way I see the poker table

When I sit down at a table with my other opponents I see a world with several armies and different generals with there troops. The Generals being the players in control of the chips and the troops being the chips. when everyone is dealt cards this is the plan of attack. the flop is the environment to dictate your position on the enemy. The turn is the middle stages of combat. The river is the close and the world in general being the position of the enemy around you. Now after reading that I want you to stop and think about that metaphor.

I am going to give a basic example about this for an illustration to help you grasp where I am coming from. You are dealt queen ten suited clubs; you are heads up with an opponent who has an even chip stack as you and the blinds are 100/200 and you have 4000 in chips you raise from the small blind (dealer position) 4 times the blind and he calls. The flop comes out queen of hearts jack of clubs and 9 of hearts. what has happened and how do you break it down.

well we got to go way back because the situation is not as important as some other factors that were not included; see at this point we are only talking about the cards and we are leaving out the most important thing about poker. The Player (General)
for example if you have a player that is new to the game and he has a large chip stack and he pushes all in does that mean you call with a medium hand. most people would because the think that just because someone is new or naive that they can bully them around on the poker table or they can't swallow their poker pro mentality and fold. Then they find themselves buying in from a friend talking crap to the new player saying what a bunch of donkey cards or saying beginners luck, so going back to the basic example of your queen ten we need to jump before that and know what type of player we are up against.

The General

I understand that I completely left you hanging on the Queen Ten of clubs hand but well come back to that later. When I said when I sit down at a poker table what were the things that I saw. I saw a world, a battlefield with armies and there generals. Understanding the other generals at the table, there image, the image they want you to see, and there actions with there position and chips is extremely important. I could go into a whole separate book of players and how they play and I will probably write one someday but for this book well keep it simple. we will say that these are the list of generals.

Super Tight: only plays the premium hands ever and pocket pair 9 and up for raises and pocket pair 8 and down limps in. will limp in with ace face suited.

Loose: will play 40%-60% of his hands on average. will bet 1/4 of the pot every time. plays any suited connectors unless raise a lot with go all in with any ace 9 and above

Power Pusher: will play suited connectors 6,7and up raises with premium hands always, plays any ace suited raises with low pocket pair 50% will position bet and will fold premium hands

Ninja: plays a lot less than a loose player but will play any 2 cards position better very aggressive works of not afraid image; bets inconsistently, likes to bluff and steal pots.

All in player: will go all in to run a bluff or have the nuts every 50/50 play style. Very emotional players that are easy to work on a poker table. *all in or nothing mentality*

The only thing I didn't really go into much detail yet is the betting with these styles which I will cover more specifically.

these 5 should Sufi enough information about what to expect in general from the table.

A chip stack means nothing; if the General behind the chips cannot execute and utilize his plans of attack he will basically forfeit them all to the better General's stack or command. The first thing you do at the table is try to look at your opponents and make small assumptions. I say "Small", never ever assume you know your opponent the moment you lay eyes on them. Getting Intel and an understanding of your opponent is just like waiting for the cards; its patience and sometimes takes time. To get reads they have to get situations where you can actually figure out what is going on in there head and see it on there plan *two cards* through there physical actions and reactions.

Other posts from Axe_Nate Blog:

Thank You Online Poker

Really could use a spot.

I played 10 Free Rolls on Full Tilt

Thank You Online Poker

I can't believe I just typed that title. When I started playing on online sites, I told myself "this will be easy." I was only fooling myself and soon to be one of the power poker players to fall victim of the evil player know as the INTERNET PLAYER!

I also would like to note that -This is my Experience with this Idea and knowledge of poker and that it doesn't always work but being able to change your game and exploit situations and the minds of your opponents is the only real way to always be progressing and keep the minds sharp-

I found myself playing my standard 3x raise and being called with crazy hands by players that were able to change gears to me later in mid game play and destroy me or trap me.

My assumption about these players now is that they give me a title or list me as tight player heavy better. This is important because if they know they got me they will let me bet for them and generally do the re raise at the river with an all in.

After playing a lot of tournament free rolls and making it extremely far into the tournament with many of them I pick up a great style of playing which allowed me to maximize my chips exponentially. I played twice as many flops, I limped, and I kept the pot relatively small. The reason why I found this to be successful is because the general public of players have caught on the power poker system. They read books and watch the pro's all play the same. Isolation and waiting for strong hands and shove. I have learned that if you do this system there are many times where you will be behind and the other opponent will not be willing to let go of his hand after the pot is so much.

Keeping pots small does a lot for you. I used to play extremely tight and raise with any ten and face card up suited. I would find action and run into big pots allowing me to lay off and relax until another set of hands. This also allowed me to play not as many hands and kept me from running into huge hands that would cost me a lot of chips.

I have found the art of value betting in online poker is one of the most powerful ways to play in online tournament poker settings for Texas Hold'em.

Lets say I have 8'7 suited spades. I honestly don't think its a great hand but what the hell. I see a flop and there are 4 people in the pot. the flop comes king H, ten D, two S. I decide to bet lets say 70% of the flop. A nice cheap small bet saying hey I have something off the flop. What will almost always happen you will get a caller, guaranteed. I have absolutely nothing at this point. The turn comes, I check! why well I want my opponents to now take the lead if they want more money in the pot and you check now they are going to be like... why did he check? I want more money I wanted him to bet again. I'll bet to keep it going. This is where you can fold if he bets. If everyone checks they are all weak *most the time!* The turn comes ten of clubs. well you check and the guy behind you checks, and the other 2 opponents they folded to the first bet. The river comes out and it's a 6 of clubs. You act first... what do you do?

You BET!!!!! you bet because you win if he calls if you lose the hand or win the hand. Why!?!?!
Because well you may win the pot with a good value bet. lets say that 4 people in the pot 100-200 blinds 4 callers that's 800 you bet lets say 550 and then you get one caller that makes the pot 1900. A good bet here only cost you about 1100. This play makes your opponent crazy if he didn't bet the turn he wasn't that strong and most players would expect you to make a continuation bet. Well now that you bet the flop you check the turn he is wondering if you are trapping. when you bet on the river around 60% on the river its almost begging for a call. If you get called here you lost a minimum amount of chips and HE SEE'S you in the BLUFF! if he folds you won 1900 chips with absolutely nothing an 8 high.

Being Called for extremely cheap is great because you are bound to get a great hand and you will most likely get paid off now with a big hand. You lead out the bets you get called with something marginal and the marginal hand wins. You want that image so you can SWITCH GEARS and lead out with a GREAT Hand! and they call you with Marginal hands and you get paid off at the river.

------------------------------ --

Tonight at World Tavern Poker.

I played poker heads up with a gentleman named *G* (I don't want to use his real name without permission) I got away with these great value bets later in the tournament because he was so concerned that I check the turn. The last thing an opponent ever wants! is to be completely OUTPLAYED! Poker has a since of pride with skill aspect. If you play against a tight player and are able to use an image and tell a good story with the run off the cards you are able to exploit there heads. Getting inside of an opponents head is key to being successful in poker Period!

Using Value bets and keeping the small pots allows you to fold to pre flop aggressors and not lose a lot of chips when people are playing the PHIL HELMUTH STYLE of poker! Why?! because people are not always going to catch hands. And if you are micro-ing a large amount of pots at small stakes without losing many chips. You are making a very crafty image for yourself at the table. You draw little attention to yourself and allow your opponents not to get in a grudge match with you but when they get a big hand and duke it out with someone they could careless if they have been playing tight. You almost become this super tight player to everyone at the table because they never see what the hell you've been playing and you winning a lot of hands but small pots.

I have found that I have maximized the amount of chips per hand that I play and that I have not been chip swinging and been in horrible desperate blind situations since I have played this way. Against the right opponents at the right time. AND THEY HAVE BEEN PAYING ME OFF!

when playing online and experimenting with this IDEA I strongly suggest to use the number keypad to make your bets and not scroll the standard. Show the opponent you are taking the extra time to make weird bets just to throw them off.

I hope this blog can be some help to you fellow players, good luck and may your pots be monsters.

I played 10 Free Rolls on Full Tilt

Well Tuesday I get my check and I should be able to cash my money and deposit some cash on to Full Tilt by Thursday.

I decided to devote my whole day in trial to win some $100.00 free rolls on Full Tilt. I was met with horrible players that were ****ing clueless to the concept of folding and found myself losing to runner runner in literally all the tournaments I played in.

I was rarely behind but regardless of how I bet or what I had; I was unable to win the overall race for the majority of my hands. I am amazed at how bad poker players are in general online. The difference between poker online and at a live table is that the people at a live table, that know what they are doing are able to get the hell out of the way of these mindless shove monkeys.

I have come to the understanding that the only easy and convenient way for me to make a decent bank roll is to play on an Online Poker Site.

My last Free roll I was at 7th place in Chips and had a complete down spiral to about 67,000 in chips. I was a little below the average but there was only 50 people left and I had been playing tight. I get pocket 7's I raise someone with 40,000 chips pushes all in.. Now normally I would insta fold here because I would be like this guy has a pocket pair bigger than me in this stage of the tournament. I then thought extensively about the hand and what had happened. And I called he had ace queen off suit. I clapped my hands together saying great call because I will go in with pocket 2's against any over connectors. Of course he turns his queen and hits me to around 20,000 chips. He wanted me to fold so bad but he was unable to play good progressive poker to keep his stack up. It wasnt the run of cards it was how bad that person played. I took a gamble a chance against someone who was inferior to me and he won the race. If I had won that race I would of been back in a good snug chip position and adding a couple dollars to my full tilt account to play with.

Instead some really shitty players are getting paid for their amazing suck outs and horrible betting, calls, and shoves.

I hate online poker so much even as I progress and become stronger at it. I will never be as good at online poker as a live table. online and live table are 2 different games altogether.

Whats more Important?

I made this post to see what people thought in general about poker in a tournament setting. What do you think are the most important skills you have to apply?

Hit me up with some comments; I am curious to what the general public on this site believes.

-Axe-

Other posts from Axe_Nate Blog:

A Plan to Play Professionally

my luck has run out.

Finally a win with World Tavern

A Plan to Play Professionally

This is not Edited and a very loose blog: More like me just spitting out my poker plans in the near future.

Well, I will start off saying that I have been extremely busy and this is my first real opportunity to post anything relating to poker, so here it goes.

I quit playing poker with the local poker leagues. I made this decision under this one train of thought "if I keep playing here I will go no where." We all have different situations and different environments to work with in life. You have to know your ambition as an individual. What is your ambition? Well, if your ambition is to play cards professionally then I encourage you to read my prospective on how I will accomplish my goal.

Your skill

Knowing what to do and what you are capable of doing in poker is crucial, if you do not have a good understanding about how to play the game at all different levels, you will always be behind. The Idea of being a great poker player is to use gained knowledge and apply it to situations that will involve your overall skills to make the best outcome from the situation.

I used the poker leagues as my elementary-high school poker lessons. They were free and as I became better and more familiar with the game I was able to make more evolved decisions and plays that made my skill jump from grade K-12th . I invested very little to almost no money to play cards with people who played cards competitively with their ambitions to win the prize. All I wanted to do was learn how to beat them the real prize lied ahead after the leagues.

Now I need to go to college and play poker to get ready for the pro's

Saving the Bank Roll

Well Different Colleges different prices. I am hoping to get my bank roll up to about 5,000 dollars. Many people will say that that is extremely risky to take 5,000.00 to Vegas or Atlantic City in hopes of generating income and coming back home with more. I beg to differ, because I have be a good student in grade school all the way to high school in the poker world I have learned that over all smart poker and the use of good skills you will generally come out ahead "GENERALLY" not always.

I plan to spend roughly $1,200.00-$2,000.00 in food expenses, living cost, and traveling. That means I am driving, I am staying with a friend, at a friends house, or a very cheap motel away from the casino. I am eating by a daily budget and eating healthy and I travel with my own car or by foot. I watch every penny I spend in these areas. The $3,000.00-$3,800.00 I have left to spend I am even more crucial with. Lets say I go to Atlantic City and I spend $2,000.00 for living for a whole month. In 30 days I am aiming to double my money because that would give me a 100% return on my overall money invested and give me $5,000.00 solid dollars to add to my overall bank added with the $3,000.00 making it $8,000.00 basically.

Simple Math works here

50.00 buy in's with an average of 75-120 people playing
1st place pays around $1,600.00
2nd $725.00
3rd $350.00

with $1,000.00 you can buy in to 20 tournaments, at this payout.

that means 1 win pays for your over all trip expenses and another win will pay for all your money invested into the tournaments up to 20 times. at $3,200.00
Making the Money 1/2 is crucial You should be able to hit 3rd place and up 1/6 times; at these odds in a standard tournament set up 40 to the pot 10 to the house and 80 people you should be walking away with $4,005.00 (if you are that good, personally I will probably do better than that)

this still leaves you with $2,000.00 dollars to play with

Many people love getting involved with cash games. Most people do not understand the concept of managing there money on a table.

You need at least And I say at least 40 times the BB. This gives you room to pressure with a good hand, to fold and not be locked in a hand because of your chip stack risk to the pot odds, and it gives you ease to be able to fold a lot and wait for a strong starter hand.

Most NL Hold'em tables are 1-2 blinds with a min of 80.00-100.00 buy ins. I recommend playing with a 100.00 because people are very loose at these tables in general.

100.00 10 games for $1,000.00
The goal here is to make around 2.5 to your dollar. If you play smart poker here and average 2.5 to every dollar invested you will come out on top by far.

out of 10 games you will most likely bust 3 times. that's 300.00 gone with no increase.

the other 70% with a 250% gain will cover you loss if that's the average and lets say one game is a 500%.

6 at a 250% increase is +$2,100.00
1 game at 500% is +600.00
-300.00
total $2,400.00

Which isn't bad at all for $1000.00 invested.
This still gives you $1,000.00 dollars to work with I would suggest playing this extra thousand under the same rules as the other $2,000.00 maybe a slight difference in stakes but you want to play a lot. $1000.00 for ten more cash games is really good. Especially if you break your average.

In all honesty I usually average at least 5-1 on my dollar and I usually only bust 1-10

$2,400.00 10 games X 2 = $4,800.00
$4,005.00 20 games
=$6,405.00 +10 more cash $8,805.00

A good concept to play by always have 20 times the amount that you are investing into. Poker isn't about winning every time, if you could do that wouldn't need to read this. Poker in a large way is about making wise decisions and being able to get the most out of those decisions for that situation. My Suggestion: Make your Odds, Control your overall situations, And Rake in the big Pots.

my luck has run out.

I generally dont talk about my life on non relative sites that push other topics but hell why not.

Well tonight after discussing poker with a good friend of mine; who I consider to be an excellent poker player I went to drive home. I got off on an off ramp onto a road that is a 55 instead of a 70. I forgot that I was on this highway and saw cop and was pulled over. I have been driving with out insurance because of a lack of funds and being laid of my job. I also have an overdue inspection. The horror to all this story is that I was going to get all this done this week because I have made enough money to get all this done. Having scheduled an inspection date and going to go back to my old insurance company to reclaim my policy.

Someone hates me above. I am the only person to blame, but now I cannot apply for the highway patrol nor have any police related jobs because I have gotten 3 citations. Just when my life was turning around and starting to get better it crumbles and I get a huge suck out.

I guess you can say I was gambling but.....I had little options I was short stacked and I am just doing my best to nurture it to move up.

The officer was very polite and gave me an extreme break by letting me keep my tags and drive home while looking the other direction. He was a true gentleman in this approach because he understood that I was just in a real bad rut. My transportation to work is screwed and I am screwed having no funds and now having to dip into what little bank I have which I have earned through a lot of small cash games to have just a chance and dream of playing professionally.

I think I am at that point of no return. I have realized in the past few days that it doesn't matter how smart you are, good, trust worthy, or ethically correct, in the end you are just lucky with life and the coin flip of chance is either on your side or not.

I think I am just going to give up, this life is just horrid to me and no matter how hard I try I end up back at square one and further behind.

I believe I am jealous however seeing people who weren't as bright and that were crude and evil in the sense of doing what was right. They are successful and progressing because of who they know or what stature of utensil was born in there mouth. Talent means nothing if it isn't identified and desired for the entertainment of someone of a higher authority or desire to experience the fruits of your work.

My last comment; You are either lucky or just shit out of luck.

-Axe-

Other posts from Axe_Nate Blog:

Finally a win with World Tavern

A Book In Progress

Bluffing like a Pro part 1
