Prop Bets
April 25, 2009OK so probably the best part about playing poker for a living is the prop bets that happen during the WSOP. I am not much of a gambler I plan on doing some heavy prop betting this summer to spice things up. I already have a 5k bet going with jurollo (Justin Rollo, WPTHero) that I will not play a table game for the rest of the year. This should save me a TON of money. It's tough to not lose thousands of dollars playing blackjack and roulette over the whole summer, especially when you're drinking.
So here is the better prop bet...Summer olympics, poker degen style: 2k per game, teams of two: 2 on 2 bball, 2 on 2 beer pong, 2 on 2 golf (only best score counts), doubles tennis. My partner is Joe Udine (better known as hoodini10 online). So far the competition is all-star pokernews employee Ryan Nelson and supposedly the CEO. If anyone else is interested in the prop bet feel free to e-mail me at cklod6@gmail.com. I think I'm looking forward to this more than I am to the actual WSOP.
Time to get some rest, maybe I will cash in something on Sunday....prob not though

Poker struggles and SCOOP
April 14, 2009This entire year I have been struggling tremendously with my poker game. Poker is a constantly evolving game and you have to be one step ahead of the pack (or at least keep up with the pack) in order to be a big winner. Lately, I have had trouble keeping up and my results have suffered. I blame this mostly on me not working hard enough and failing to keep my composure on a consistent basis. That being said, my goal for the next couple months is to make critical adjustments and elevate my game to a much higher level in time for WSOP. I plan on spending a lot more time reviewing hand histories, as well as discussing situations with other players. Right now I'd say I'm playing C+ poker. Hopefully, with hard work, I can get my game back as well as my confidence.
Now that I got the negatives out of the way, I also have some recent good news. Last week, I won the 8-game mixed mid-stakes SCOOP event. I rarely play mixed games but consider myself a competent player in most of them. I tended to play very tight in the games I wasn't as skilled in and opened up my game in those where I felt more comfortable. It was probably the most fun I've ever had playing an online tourney. It's nice to get a break from NLHE for a change. It was also nice to end my 5 month drought of no first place finishes with this win. I thought it might never end.
In other news, I plan on buying a home this week. I've been looking in Philly for the past 6 months and finally think I've got my mind made up. Hopefully, I can settle in before I head off to Vegas for the series.
I'll have some updates next week.
RIP Harry Kalas
