Aruba Recap

I have never done the Aruba Classic before, but I decided to go with one of my buddies who won a package via UltimateBet. It didn't take much convincing after I heard all the great things about the island. Also, I was able to purchase a seat to the tournament at about 80% of the actual buy-in which would end up covering most of my expenses. After waking up at 5:30 AM on Sunday, I was headed to the Philly airport to catch my 7:55 AM flight (probably the least fun part about the trip).

My time in the main event didn't last very long. After getting caught on a bluff, losing with a 2nd best hand, and running AK in KK, I was sent back to my hotel room during level 2. Not really what I was hoping for, but at least it was early enough to head to the beach! I spent most of the week relaxing on the beach and betting on the MLB playoff games, which almost paid for my trip. I also played in the $2k side event and the charity tournament as well. No luck in the $2k; I think I only played about 6 hours of poker the entire week.

Despite not having success in the tournaments, I had a great time and met a bunch of cool people down there. The highlight of the trip was probably the last day. The weather was beautiful so I hung on the beach with some friends all day, then hit up a couple bars to watch the games before Hellmuth's big party. I was definitely pretty impressed when I got there, apparently Phil knows how to throw a party. Things got a little crazy as the night went on. Unfortunately I had an early flight the next day and my roommate had an earlier one. I wake up to a phone call from him telling me that he grabbed my passport instead of his so I had to jump out of bed and hop in a cab so that he could make his flight.

Aruba was fun, but now onto more important things like the Phillies winning the World Series. And after the parade, I'll be heading for Foxwoods for their WPT main event. Until then, GL to everyone at the tables.
