So while I am holding down the PokerNews fort here in Melbourne with the rest of the Marketing team, the parties and action is really kicking off in Las Vegas.

Update

So here I am again, 36,000 feet above the ground. I am in route to sunny London where I will be for a few days to meet with some associates and to “take care of business” as they say.

The last few weeks have seen me travel all over Eastern Europe, visiting country managers, setting up business deals, and getting to know the corporate team in Lithuania. I was elated when I joined the team at PokerNews, and I can only say that the future looks incredibly bright for both the company and the poker community as a whole.

Over the last few weeks I have met some of the most dedicated and hard working people in the industry, and it has done nothing less than inspire me. I aim to give the team access to all my knowledge and experience and I know that together, we will dominate the online gaming market over the next few years (Personally I think we already do, but give me 12 months and see where we are at!)

If you would like to see a few pictures from my recent travels, check out my pictures section. There were some great sights and very memorable people along the way.

After London my next stop is home to Vegas for 6 days. I get to come home to my lovely fiancé Jennifer and our lovely pet (daughter) Lexi. I miss them more than words can say and I can’t wait to see both their incredible smiles.

While home I will be assisting Matt Savage and Lisa Wheeler of Greasie Wheels in the running of the biggest and most prestigious charity event in Las Vegas, the Jennifer Harmon NSPCA tournament. The NSPCA is a no-kill animal shelter in local Las Vegas and for those that know me, know that I am a HUGE animal lover (just take a look at all the “Lexi” pictures and you will see what I mean).

After Vegas, it’s back to Eastern Europe where I will be joining the PokerNews team and community at the first major event of the year, the Austrian PokerNews Cup. The event promises to offer the PokerNews players a chance to play with some of the biggest names in the business including former Aussie Millions champ, Lee Nelson.

Right on the heels of the PokerNews Cup is the biggest poker tournament in the history of the Balkan region, the Balkan PokerNews Challenge. I recently had the chance to visit the seaside town of Varna and can safely say, that this event is one not to be missed. The International Casino and Hotel is not only 5 stars, it is located directly on the sandy beaches of the Black Sea. There is talk that the event may even be televised, so stay tuned to this BLOG for more info on that topic.

Well first things firsts, it’s a big hello to everyone out there in the my.pokernews.com community. This is officially my first BLOG entry on the my.pokernews.commy.pokernews.com network.
Where to start, where to start? Well, first I should tell everyone a little bit more about myself.

As of around 2 weeks ago, I was appointed to a role with PokerNews as the Vice President. What does that mean? Well, basically, it means that I will be responsible for just about every aspect of the PokerNews Empire and affiliated businesses. I will be working directly with our leader and visionary Tony G, and our CEO Damon Rasheed. My first priority with the company will be to streamline our marketing efforts and to handle the day-to-day responsibilities that come with managing 29 language sites and hundreds of employees. Not a small task at all, but I am up for it and am very much looking forward to taking PokewNews and our partners all the way to the top in every market worldwide.

Here is a little information regarding who I am and where I have come from. I started my career in the gaming industry in 1995 in Melbourne Australia at the second largest casino/hotel in the world, Crown Casino Crown Link . My career here started as a Black Jack dealer, and soon I was promoted to acting floor person. It was during my time at Crown that I was introduced to the great game of poker by the worldwide gaming guru, Keith “Bendigo” Sloan.

Keith was responsible for one of the biggest poker undertaking of modern times; bring professional poker to the masses in Australia. After many years hard work, I am happy to say that Keith’s training and dedication lives on strong as both the Crown Poker Room and the Aussie Millions are world wide poker brands that command international attention on the same level as the biggest tournaments around the world.

After helping with the opening of the Crown Poker Room, I took a job with International Cruise line giant Carnival Cruise Lines. After working for Carnival for almost 2 years as a Casino Host, I left the company and decided to chase my dreams of gaming and poker, and moved to Las Vegas in 2000.

I have now been living in Las Vegas for almost 8 years now. In 2004 I formed a boutique gaming consulting company with my friend and business partner Kyle Morris called TV Poker. TV Poker LLC Over the years I have been fortunate enough to work on some of the most innovative and groundbreaking television shows in the industry including the MANSIONPoker.net Poker Dome Challenge, the most expensive television show ever filmed.

During my time with TV Poker I was also able to work closely with the Hollywood movie business and was not only a consultant, but also one of the actors in the blockbuster movie, “Lucky You”. Lucky You On the set, I was responsible for the training of the primary cast members Eric Bana and Robert Duval. Working closely with the actors I was able to give them the tools necessary to perform their extremely complex roles.

Another movie TV Poker was associated with was the hit movie, “Oceans 13”. Oceans 13 Both Kyle and I were the gaming consultants on the set responsible for setting up the entire 52 table “fake” casino floor. While working on the set, we got to know the two writers of the movie, David Levien and Brian Koppelman. We soon discovered that they were huge poker fans and after a few games of heads up poker on the set, they told us that they were the two guys responsible for the Poker classic, “Rounders”. So needless to say, the time spent on the set of Oceans was always entertaining. For some reason, I could never beat Brian, but luckily for me, Brian could never beat Kyle, so I think that more than made up for it.

Kyle and I were also closely associated with the new movie about the MIT Blackjack team, “21”.21 The Movie Once again we were the gaming consultants on the set, responsible for all the hand resets, continuity and the training of the actors. I am happy to report that Jim Sturges (lead actor in movie) was extremely easy to work with, and after only a few sessions, I was able to teach him everything there is to know about Blackjack, including how to count cards!

So there you have it, basically I have done just about all there is to do in the television and gaming industry over the last few years. I am very excited to be joining the #1 online poker community at PokerNews and I am looking forward to growing not only Poker, but gaming in general worldwide.
