  • bankroll builders...

    July 31, 2008

i've been building the bankroll very well at the 6max tables on stars. It seems hard for me to lose at those tables. i have to really tilt or make some "hero" play. i've also thrown in some 4 person Heads Up Tournys to the mix. I like to play heads up but i often get annoyed at the lack of return on investment. however with these you play two games to win 3 buy-ins. i have been winning one out of every two. today i have only lost one heads up match (cards have been on my side a bit too.)

nothing like pocket aces, big bankrolls, and mason jennings...

playing an MTT a few minutes. 1000 players to start, 3 hours later we are down to 40 players and I am 4th in chip overall. 20 minutes later i am the weeping railbird.

with that said my tournament game is coming along nicely. i no longer have an issue making the money, or collecting chips as the bubble nears. my issue now seems to be holding on to my chips after the bubble. just one more thing to work on and then i will be dominating these on a regular basis. muahahahahahahahaha....(in creepy pirate voice!)

  • this weekend...

    July 26, 2008

i had a trip to the horseshoe planned but my partner in crime ran into some car trouble and wasn't able to go. instead i spent some quality time building my bankroll is 6max games. i've found these games easy to dominate when i am play my at least my "b" game. I usually bring in a least a buy-in an hour. a week more of this and i will be moving up a level to test those games.

    goodnight and goodluck

  • today is a new day

    July 23, 2008

so ive played 6max games for about 4 hours today. these games seem to really fit my style as i like to get involved often and put pressure on my victims. i played really well until my last table. i had doubled up and was in my usual comfortable position when i caught a bad beat for half my stack. i then donked the rest off in two pots and shut down the site. i had avoided tilt really well all day until then. usually its one person that tilts me, with terrible play and amazing luck. hence my hinderance in the online world.

anyway, today has been a productive day. (my bankroll is kissing me on the cheek right now)

  • donk alert!

    July 23, 2008

so i officially tilted away 4 to 5 buy-ins in what should have been a very lucrative game. i have a few fish that i trail on stars and found two fo them in one game. i sat down with the max buy-in as i usually do and played pretty tight the first few rounds. i then opened it up a little and won a few pots. I then lost a big pot with two pair to a rivered higher two pair. After that i tilted and blew through several buy-ins. It seemed like every time i gained my composure i would take a beat and lose it again. i should have got up from the tables and shut the computer down but I didnt. and no i will be paying for it trying to grind out the bank roll i just smoked.

    good day and goodluck.

  • mixing it up

    July 21, 2008

i had some real bad results in my first couple heads up and single table SNGs today. I've noticed this often in my game. If i play one format for too long i get into a zone, a bad zone. i turn into this robot who plays anything with potential and never takes the other persons play into account. it often leads to terrible results.

So today when i noticed this i immediately switched to cash games. i play ring games pretty loose and much more aggressive in marginal situations when i think i have a good read. this obviously takes a little different approach and therefore forced me to refocus, if you will.

it worked. i made about 5 buy-ins in a little under two hours.

    July 20, 2008

yesterday and today i have been playing exclusively heads up SNGs. i am normally very efficient in these but have noticed a major downturn in my play over the last two days. i have noticed two major flaws in my game.

Both flaws are related in that i am caught up in either in too positive or too negative of emotions. the positive sides leads to quick action. i call in marginal situations without a single thought. i overbet my weaker hands and underbet my stronger hands trying to set a trap. the negative leads to passive frustrated play. i become a calling station and fall into traps easily.

    physical : 8
mentally: 4 (drained from poker and life in general)
    external variables: 5

    Over the last two days...

HU - 10 fo 13 (Both on Stars and Bodog)
Single table - Placed in 3 of 4

  • Heads up day #2

    July 18, 2008

    4 of 5 today

Ive been working on avoiding coin flips unless i have a 2 to 1 chip lead. I believe over the long run this will help reduce my variance. I may be to risk averse by doing this but I am interested in the results. It is also worth noting that I feel I am a much better player than the level I am currently playing. Given that I think avoiding small percentage gaps is the best route to go as I feel I can take any of these opponents out over time.

I am currently playing my usual 5.5 (5000 guaranteed) at Stars. I have cashed a couple time the last week but have donked off after that. I tend to get bored in long online MTTs. When that sets in I get emotional after a bad beat and lose it. I'll update later with full results from the day.

    gl all.
