Harrington on Cash
September 01, 2008as i have never been a fan of tournament poker i never dipped into Dan Harrington on Hold'em series.ive heard great things about it and will eventually get there i am sure. however, i noticed when recently looking through the VIP Store on Pokerstars that he has written two books on cash game play. i ordered them asap and just received them last monday. i am currently half way through the first book and while the actual reading can be labor intensive it has already helped my game immensely. ive seen a more consistent profit from session to session and find myself "losing little and winning big."
i have also delved into HORSE on a nightly basis and i really think this game might be great for me. one of my major issues when playing online is boredom and the constant switch of game and strategy involved in horse keeps me from falling into that. i know. i know. somebody out there is going to say "why dont you just multi-table?" because i tend to be very LAG and need to have a decent knowledge of my opponent in order to make sound decisions. i've also heard "aren't the HORSE fields more difficult, even at lower stakes, because of the knowledge it would take someone to be able to play the game?" Yes and No. but my real thought is i think i can play any game better than anyone else given the same preparation and experience. so why would i not dive into something that may avoid my biggest weakness just because of the format?
anyways, my roll on stars is slowly building again. goodnight and goodluck.

now i didnt play all those hands well but damn...
still in, still grinding -
punishment...
August 06, 2008due to my recent tournament woes i will be forcing myself to refocus my tournament game.
i will only play tournys until i am happy with my level of play.
(I HATE TOURNAMENTS)
-
why i am a tournament donk...
August 06, 2008i played an 11.70 sat. to the sunday million (and a half) last night. 3 tickets and one 30 dollar rebate....
6 players left and I am first in chips. I know this is still going to be a grind because people are hanging on for dear life. I am playing effectively, stealing blinds whenever possible to maintain my stack but more importantly keep those chips from other players. I have an excellent read on the other players at my table.
4 players left and now I am guaranteed some money. i really want the tourny ticket though and keep reassuring myself that i can sit on my hands and someone will bust.
3 players left and I only have 30 dollars to show. How did I lose you ask? I played a marginal hand preflop. hit middle pair on the flop and based on a read knew i had the best hand. the chips went in on the turn and my opponent hit an ace on the river for an overpair.
i couldnt sleep for two hours...why dont i just fold????????????????

turning the corner
August 04, 2008i know it is the first of many but i really feel like i have turned a corner with my play in the last week. my play has been incredibly consistent (minus one 2 hour tilt session) and more importantly i am picking up my mistakes as i make them. it feels amazing to play. ive found, however, i am a little gun shy.extended sessions would help build my roll and my knowledge but i am afraid to push it. i want to play at my peak everytime i open a session. i dont want to loose this groove im in.
ive made more in the last week than i make at my day job (which isn't saying alot) and i feel really confident that within a year or so i could be playing this game for a living. (long term goal)
-
the rollercoaster...
August 01, 20085th hand of the day...
i wake up with AA in the BB. Player in middle position raises and i call. the flop comes out low rainbow and i bet. he raises 4x my bet and i push all-in. he calls w/ AK unsuited. I felt him and smile.
1st hand of heads up play. he limps. i check w/ 74cc. hit club flush on turn. get the chips in and he turns over J high flush. i throw mouse out window. (ok not really but i wanted it to happen.)
how i love this game.
-
bankroll builders...
July 31, 2008i've been building the bankroll very well at the 6max tables on stars. It seems hard for me to lose at those tables. i have to really tilt or make some "hero" play. i've also thrown in some 4 person Heads Up Tournys to the mix. I like to play heads up but i often get annoyed at the lack of return on investment. however with these you play two games to win 3 buy-ins. i have been winning one out of every two. today i have only lost one heads up match (cards have been on my side a bit too.)
nothing like pocket aces, big bankrolls, and mason jennings...
-
donkaments...
July 28, 2008playing an MTT a few minutes. 1000 players to start, 3 hours later we are down to 40 players and I am 4th in chip overall. 20 minutes later i am the weeping railbird.
with that said my tournament game is coming along nicely. i no longer have an issue making the money, or collecting chips as the bubble nears. my issue now seems to be holding on to my chips after the bubble. just one more thing to work on and then i will be dominating these on a regular basis. muahahahahahahahaha....(in creepy pirate voice!)
