why i am a tournament donk...
Wednesday, August 06, 2008 09:39i played an 11.70 sat. to the sunday million (and a half) last night. 3 tickets and one 30 dollar rebate....
6 players left and I am first in chips. I know this is still going to be a grind because people are hanging on for dear life. I am playing effectively, stealing blinds whenever possible to maintain my stack but more importantly keep those chips from other players. I have an excellent read on the other players at my table.
4 players left and now I am guaranteed some money. i really want the tourny ticket though and keep reassuring myself that i can sit on my hands and someone will bust.
3 players left and I only have 30 dollars to show. How did I lose you ask? I played a marginal hand preflop. hit middle pair on the flop and based on a read knew i had the best hand. the chips went in on the turn and my opponent hit an ace on the river for an overpair.
i couldnt sleep for two hours...why dont i just fold????????????????

read quite a good article on closing out satellites - whether it would have helped the situation you described I don't know but I think it's worth a read - http://betting.betfair.com/poker/web-watch/sorel-m izzi-on-closing-out-satellites-200308.html

dont worrie about it mate! sometime s... happens, even when you are patient. basically...if you want a coinflip then you got one...i try to go in such situations as you described, not allin as long as i have not at least top two pair...though i lose sometimes against a set ...
maybe this is a comfort for you, bye n gl!
