Season is over/Back to the grind

Well my final year playing university soccer is all wrapped up and it's time to get back to the grind. Our season was pretty disappointing, we lost our first round in playoffs in double overtime, frustrating for sure, but it happens. I enjoyed getting out and playing again at that level, it's been awhile and nice to know I can still handle it, but having said that don't mind that it's over and get back to the felt a little more and get some traveling in again.

Lately Poker has been pretty good considering how much time I have put into it. I have had some solid results. To highlight a few recent scores, 4th in the nightly at stars, 1st in the $50 1,1 at FTP, and a few top 4s in some smaller stuff. The last few sessions have been pretty rough. I logged in 34 hours this past weekend to lose about 10k, that always leaves you with an empty feeling, but it does come with the game. Looking forward to grinding out a lot of hours this weekend and trying to find a few results. The HSMTT schedule is getting so packed these days you need to ship 2 tournaments a session just to see any profit, it's pretty sick how much we can spend now. Any day of the week you can probably spend close to 10k if you're putting a full session in. It can make for some pretty tough days. Anyway, see what we can accomplish this weekend and will get another blog off on Monday with some results in it!

Gl to all this weekend,

Update / US Poker Championship

Hey guys -

FTOPS was a little shaky. I havent been as focused as usual and theres been alot going on away from the tables, so I didnt put in a whole lot of quality sessions. I probably shouldve taken more time off actually, but I tried to put in as much volume as I could because the action is always good with an FTOPS series running. I made a few runs and built up some solid stacks in the 2 day and the Main event, but no dice - I just didnt play well in a bunch of spots. Despite the frustrations of letting of few big opportunities slip away, I took 2nd to Jeff Madsen in the 75k on FTP the other night to recover and get some confidence rolling into the USPC at TAJ starting tommorow. I starting to come back into form a bit- and Im definitely looking forward to playing live for a few days. I will try to ship some updates on here if I build some chips, but otherwise ill probably twitter a bit - www.twitter/hoodini10. Best of luck to all.

We regret to announce this, but that is the sad truth – the promo has been temporarily closed.

It was so successful that we ran out of bonuses really fast. There were some other important reasons of this decision as well, so we just hope you've enjoyed this free money giveaway while it lasted. We will try to arrange some new no deposit bonus promotions in the nearest future as soon as some of the issues are solved.

Meanwhile, you can get free cash from a good friend of PokerNews and a long term partner – PartyPoker. Pokernews and Party run a $50 Free no deposit bonus promotion just like the one we had here with TonyGPoker.

Other poker blog posts:

Party promo gives FREE no deposit bonus again!

Tony Bigcharles

Kickyourace updates and FTOPS

Annie Duke's Celebrity Poker Night 2009 benefiting DEF

More frustration/upcoming schedule...

Tony Bigcharles

This post is about one of the most interesting characters in poker who has a large online following over the last few years from posting his crazy adventures on several poker forums. Readers of Tony Bigcharles (aka SevenCard2003) rantings love him, hate him, root for him, bet when he will go busto, feel sad for him, but they don't stop reading. It is one of the most unusual circumstances in the poker world. Tony mostly plays small NL cash games (.50/1, 1/2 sometimes 2/5) so he is not a huge player that people are following.

What makes Tony's story compelling is he is an autistic man of 40+ years old, who is a formerly homeless (several think he may be that way again) beggar who used the money he received on the street to play poker games across the United States. He has attempted to get his life together by setting a home base in Government Housing in Lyons, Kansas. Tony's autism was recently judged debilitating enough that he was awarded Government Assistance (SSI). He has been using the original backpay awarded (Apx $7-9000) about 12 month ago, as his poker bankroll.

While he has had adventures that he has posted in Atlantic City (highlighted by sleeping in bathroom stall story), Los Angeles, and several other locations, his most recent adventures (and blog) have played out in Las Vegas. His dream is to become a successful Professional Poker Player and remove himself from US Assistance. His current drawback is that he tilts when he has a losing poker session, and he can not keep himself off Black Jack and Video Poker Machines. Making things worse is that he is a "martingale" type bettor, meaning he increases his bets even larger when he is on a losing streak.

If you want to get hooked on this character, you can read his current exploits at All Vegas Poker where his blog is at 354 pages and counting. If you find him interesting enough, you can google some of his best historic postings at 2+2 and PartTimePoker.

Other poker blog posts:

Kickyourace updates and FTOPS

Annie Duke's Celebrity Poker Night 2009 benefiting DEF

More frustration/upcoming schedule...

151st MTT Win

In Paris

Kickyourace updates and FTOPS

11/15/09 - 56th out of 9832 FTP FTOPS#24 Knockout. Sorry I haven't written in a while. I wasn't happy here from my result, I wanted the final table but looking back, I also didn't know we had this many people either. I signed up early for it and never looked at the 9832 people that were also in this event. I didn't. I only cared about making the final table which I didn't get. I did knock 5 players out of the event. My goal of course wasn't to knock any players out. I wasn't looking to risk my stack for a $20.00 knock out when a $150K prize was in front of you. But I did go after the short stacks when I had chips. I raise 2000 chips. Short stack shoves for $3000, I'm priced in to call and I was getting pretty lucky with random 2 cards. One guy even wrote me and said, "you raised with 2/5 off and knocked me out". Sure, short stacks are normally tight, unless they have a monster, they don't shove or call so my range opens a lot. Also, a lot of my flips held up, I was playing down to the river a lot rather then giving up on a missed flop just in case other players were just putting 2nd bets. The most surprising thing I was doing and getting results was min raising players or 3 betting then if I thought they were weak from watching them repeatly doing the same thing through the tournament. I'm not sure how someone playing 8 games at once will catch on to this type of tell and if you do play 8 games consider this in the future.

Chipmeup.com mentioned my run and thanks for the rail. The backers made a few dollars also. http://chipmeup.pokernews.com/news/ftopsXIV-wrapup . I did cash in 3 of the 5 FTOPS I played in. All my events were stakeback if I'm correct so any cash, the backer made money. At the least, if I cashed, I paid the staker back his share of his stake. I think the last time I played FTOPS, I bubbled one of the 6 I played, misplayed another one that cost me a cash and never got going in the others. One thing I like about Chipmeup.com is the conversation we as players have. I don't see us looking to tear each other up but rather help each other grow in our sport. This is something I don't see a lot of on other staking sites.

The month of November seems to see a change in my style or consist of changing of my style to suit the tables and players and the results and cashes are starting to add up. I'm playing more SNG's also and seeing a positive ROI for those also. Still a ways to go to where I'm happy with my play (and I'm hard on myself regardless) but good to see progress. Shoutouts to Nomaddman, LilPokerGirlie, Telefonkiosk, Mttsmasher, Fooge (always behind you Fooge), Craiggray, Thomas Bihl who didn't get mentioned but cashed a lot in the FTOPS and final tabled a non FTOPS HORSE event. I got to watch his events and he played solid but sometimes the cards don't go your way even with the best hand and he had the best hand almost everytime. Rwestover was also a big support in the last few months as we pointed out mistakes we were making and adjusting to not do them again. If I didn't mention your name, with over 100 active players at chipmeup.com, everyone was pulling for all players through FTOPS events.

Other poker blog posts:

Annie Duke's Celebrity Poker Night 2009 benefiting DEF

More frustration/upcoming schedule...

151st MTT Win

In Paris

Tao-O-Ween

Got my stitches removed today... my hand's still a bit sore, but otherwise completely better. Sooooooo, here I am.

Poker lately has been well... poker. I feel like when I go on these mini-rants detailing times I got deep and got screwed and/or punted, that I just sound whiny, so I'm gonna try to avoid doing that. I'll just say I've had a bunch of close calls lately (including 300r ftops/main event, and about a million others), and that I have partly myself to blame, and partly a lot of very bad luck. That's just all there is to it sometimes.

My horses have been pretty stagnant as well, except for Grayson, who continues to crush everything in sight (a 3rd and a 2nd last night for 11kish combined, a 2nd place on sunday for 16kish, etc etc).

There we have it, another FTOPS brick for me. Other than a 3rd place for $25k or so earlier this year, I pretty much entirely bricked all online majors this year. (SCOOP, all FTOPS, WCOOP). That's a lot to overcome and still have a profitable year (SCOOP alone was -55k)... my db says that I'm down $12k on stars this year, and up a little under 90k between UB/FTP/Stars. That's pretty shocking/disappointing, but better players than I have gone on much worse downswings than this. I guess it's not technically a downswing since I'm up, but running this far below EV feels like a pretty bad downswing. Oh well.

Anyways I've just started to play some cap cash games on FTP, so we'll see how that goes. I should have a pretty big edge in these, since I can't imagine many players who have 30 bb's down better than I do, and I know of some players who have made big money in these games. You can probably find me anywhere between 3/6 and 25/50 over the next few weeks. The inconsistency of tournaments is starting to weigh on me, and it'll be nice to mix it up and try to find a way to make some real money. I'll still be playing the big nightly tournaments when I'm playing (and Sundays of course) but probably won't be putting in an afternoon tournament schedule for a long time. So, feel free to search AJKHoosier1 on Full Tilt and enjoy.

I am debating whether or not I should go to Vegas in December for the Bellagio Five Diamond series... I've heard that the prelims are expected to be pretty small fields, and I'm not sure if a small field at the Bellagio is gonna be more worth my time than playing online, so we'll see. I'll let you guys know when I make a decision.

Till then, here comes the grind.
