Minimum Play Day
May 27, 2008For some reason, I'm not really in the mood to play tonight. Sure, it could be how I've run the last couple of days. But I don't really think so. SO, I decided to play minimum stakes tonight. A couple of freerolls and nothing over $2. I figure tonight is more of a battle against boredom. I can play all night for less than $5. It's cheaper than a movie.
I've been reading all of the articles about folks that already have a seat or are going to the WSOP to work. Since I'm still trying to qualify, jealousy abounds. I've been trying to decide which final push would be best...... a big buy in for less seats or a lower buy in with guaranteed seats. I know there will be thousands of players but Stars has a 200 Seat Guaranteed tourney for $370. It seems like a good value. Unfortunately, it's the same weekend as a live tourney that I wanted to play.
Decisions, decisions.

Memorial Day
May 26, 2008It's Memorial Day. A lot of companies are shut down today in observance. I work for a Japanese company so while they shut down to show respect for the American holiday, I'm sure somewhere in the back of their heads, they can't really be that happy about missing production in honor of the guys that nuked them years ago. While I served in the military myself, I'm sorry, but I just view Memorial Day as one of the good holidays.....day off and don't have to buy presents.
Just hanging out around the house this afternoon. Wife, mother-in-law, and daughter are out by the pool. I'll join in awhile. I just don't enjoy sitting by the pool for hours. It's swim, get out, and I'm done. They like to just bake. I think that God gave man intelligence and he built air conditioners....and it was good.
So time for a couple of tourneys on Stars. I had no success yesterday. Maybe I can turn the tide today. We'll see.

Lazy Sunday
May 25, 2008Well I said that I was changing my blog so I'm going to try and stay true to that. There will be some thoughts on poker of course but I'm just blogging whatever's going on for the day or week.
Like I blogged previously, it's a 3 day weekend but instead of going anywhere, I decided to stay home and take care of some of the "Honey-Do" list. I worked on that yesterday so I'm free to be lazy today. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it. Indianapolis 500 is coming on and the NASCAR race is later so between the races and playing some tourneys on Stars, I should have a good day.
I already busted out of one tourney today. Table Bully got me. He'd been overbetting almost every hand. He ends up pushing me with

when I have
. Gotta make a stand sometime and this seemed like a good spot. The Poker Gods weren't looking down on me favorably thought and it flops an ace with me getting no help on the turn or river. OK, on to the next tourney.OK...it's later now and so far I've had zero success. So I took a break for a couple of hours and now it's back to the tourneys.

Changing My Blog
May 24, 2008I decided today that I was going to change my blog. I've said before that I'm not a good blogger. Mainly because I was centered on posting results and I'd be too tired when I finished playing to blog. Now I think I'm going to just blog whatever happens to be running through my mind.
I spend a lot of time logged into PokerNews.com. I also frequently log-in for the other English PN sites. PN.com forum is running a little slow. We get the new members (obviously looking to take advantage of the great PN freerolls) but the posting is going slow. Still working on ideas to help .com be more of a presence in the US. Hopefully one of the PN WSOP qualifiers will make it to the "November 9". That would guarantee some interest right there. Maybe I can get qualified and handle this myself.
Whenever I want to see an active PN forum, I just log into the Dutch PN forum. 121 people logged in right now. Now that's an active forum. We'll get there.
I thought about going down to Biloxi to get in some live action this weekend. I joke about needing a kitchen pass but in reality, my wife asked me if I was going this morning, when I said "No," she asked me why not? So really I get all of the support that a man could want from his wife. I just decided that there were things needing doing around the house.
Well, that's all for now. I'm looking for some online tourneys on Stars to get into. Just killing time.

2008 WSOP
May 06, 2008I've been doing a lot of thinking lately. I guess when you reach a certain age, you qualify to be reflective of things in your life. One thing that seems to consume a lot of my time (and I'm glad that it does) is poker. I play online 40+ hours per week. I play in a live home game once/week. I moderate the forum here on PokerNews. I read as much strategy and other poker books and articles as possible. Simply, poker is a large part of my life right now.
I qualified for the 2006 WSOP on Pacific. Now with the UIGEA, that's not an option. So I play the US friendly sites. I'm working on various ways to get my 2008 seat. I'm qualified on PoolStars for their WSOP final. I'm qualified on Bodog for their final. I'm working on Stars to do the same.
It was almost unbearable to sit at home last year and track the tournament here on PokerNews Live Reporting. The coverage was great but I WASN'T THERE.
Time to get a seat.

Last Month's Tourneys
May 03, 2008I know I previously posted about playing in the IP Classic in Biloxi. Well, I'm not sure if the annual event has gone semiannual but they had another last month. I went down to play in 2 of the preliminary events like I usually do.
1st Event- Played pretty good. Around 280 players so payed the top 18. I bounced out in 23rd.
I went card dead with 36 left and blinded my way down to oblivion.Left the table and went straight to a cash table. Still steaming from the tourney, I dropped $300 in about 10 minutes. Oh no gotta go. Went to the blackjack table to have a drink, relax and then go to bed. I like blackjack. There's not as much thinking as poker so it's good to have a drink and relax. And I was winning. I was sooooo tired but you can't walk away when you're hot. I cashed out up $750 so my poker losses were now forgotten.
2nd Event- Went much like the 1st event. I played well but was determined not to blind down too low. So, I pushed with KQ suited and the BB called me with KK. Gone in 27th and tourney paid 18. Good thing was, I got the final 5 players in a side bet to agree to a chop for $440.
So with $880 in tourney fees and $300 on cash table, I'd played 19 hours of poker for $1180 in losses-$440 chop=$740.
What to do? I wasn't going to repeat the previous night's performance so I decided to go on to bed and hit the tables in the morning. Got up early, checked out of my room, and returned to the blackjack tables. Cashed out 4 hours later with a $700 profit. So that's $1550 on the blackjack tables.
Overall, weekend was OK. Blackjack covered the poker and expenses. Now I have to get qualified for the WSOP.
