$5 Pot Limit Tourney on Bodog

Wednesday, October 24, 2007 20:15

I play in this because it usually ends around the same time as I need to hit the sheets.

I made the final table 4th in chips. After about 1 hour it was down to heads up and I was trailing. Here's the hand that sealed the tourney for me.

Davega $41903.00
cbizzle23 $51097.00

Blinds 1600/800 with 150 ante

Cards Dealt:

Davega: {6-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
cbizzle23: {7-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Davega raise $2400
cbizzle23 call $1600

Flop: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} Yeah Baby

Thought for a minute....with an ace, the normal play is to check. I'd tried good bluffs against this guy 3x and he called each time. So I decided to pot bet for confusion.

Davega bets $6700
cbizzle23 raises $26800 (it's working)
Davega all-in $31853
cbizzle 23 calls $11753

Turn: {2-Diamonds}

River: {5-Hearts}

Davega wins pot $83806

cbizzle 23 down to $9194

I finished him off 3 hands later. The previous bluff attempts and betting rather than checking the flop made this a happy ending.....at least for me.Cheers

The only reason he raises it up is because he thinks his king is good. (He can't possibly put you on an ace with that flop.)

I think you've got to check or bet smaller (ie. a weak continuation bet) -and give him a chance to catch up.

just my two cents.

btw, how much did you cash?

(and what are you playing in a $5 tourney for anyways Dave - I thought you were a heavy hitter.)

I agree with your reasoning but this guy had called several bets previously so I followed the same pattern and got paid off.

Cashed squat......a measly $95 but I have to play tourneys that end at a reasonable hour during the work week. This is a quickie. And don't like playing big buy-in online too much unless I satellite in.
