More on Duplicate Poker

Friday, July 27, 2007 20:25

I played a few tourneys tonight. Made it past the 1st round on most but only won one. This could be a very interesting game. For anybody that doesn't know what Duplicate Poker is, it's a game where you are competing against other players that are sitting in the same position on other tables. They are getting the same cards as you and same flops. You play a set number of hands per round. Then the field is cut. You don't go out if you go all in and lose. You're net total just goes negative. So sometimes it's not nly how much you win but how little you lose.
What distracts from the game is some people insist on going all in on EVERY hand, regardless of what they have. If you have someone on your table doing this and outdrawing you when the other tables don't have this, you are doomed. There's not much you can do. Call and hope that you can hit the most flops is your only play.
If anybody has any tips, I welcome them.:-]

Thanks for the review Dave. I've been sort of curious about duplicate poker.

I guess conservative play will not always work - you just have to hit a big hand?

Conservative play definitely won't always work. It depends on how many actual winning hands your seat is dealt (regardless of cards). If it's dealt most, somebody is probably winning more per hand than you.
