"The lucky player is usually the player that knows how much to leave to chance". I have always taken the position that to improve at any game you have to be objective and you have to play better players. You also have to actively learn, with an open mind, new ideas. Lastly, you have to understand that your current ideas about the game have to change and you *will* toss into the dustbin some cherished, comfortable ideas on your road to better poker play. This attitude has taken me from being a talented hobbyist poker player, that really enjoyed the game of poker, to being a talented hobbyist poker player that really enjoys the game of poker and has built up an enviable poker bankroll AND who plays a lot better. Still relatively speaking a weak poker player (compared to *real* players like Daniel Negreanu et al) it is clear there has been some improvement.
