LESSON 2 AND DO WOMEN REALLY GET THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE WHEN PLAYING POKER

Sunday, September 21, 2008 13:41

first I would like to start off with an heart felt apology to anyone who reads this post, as to why it took so long to write my next blog. Although I shouldn't be disclosing my private life on this one I will because it's kind of relative to what I have to say about poker. About 2 days after posting my last blog a family issue arose with my son and his girlfriend, where he decided that she should be his punching bag, which eventually developed into a 3 day coup de grace between me and my own child, and with me being the type of woman that I am as well as the type of mother that I am I called the police to have her file charges against him. Which led to him going into a drinking binge with a threatened suicide. So as the story finally played out on day 3 I go to his house where he had drank about 1/2 of a bottle of vodka and taken as he said about 8 pills of some sort or variety and was at this point holed up in his room with a loaded gun threatening to kill hisself, which led to me getting about as pissed as I would ever get with one of my kids at which point I took my stun gun out and gave him the business end of said stun gun, for one to get the gun away from him and 2 to get him the adrenaline rush that he needed after taking several substances.

Needless to say it turned out to be a very interesting birthday weekend for me. The reason I disclose this though is not because I want to but my business out on the internet like that but because I believe that any woman no matter who she is or what she does deserves respect and that no man for whatever the circumstances may be should be allowed to cross that line where he should be able to disrespect any woman. So today I am listening to 2+2 pokercast, and one of the men started talking about a lady on the tv show Jeopardy and I believe the comments were good looking and leggy and how she would do well in poker not just because she was agressive but because she could pick up a lot of sponsers because she was good looking and leggy, and I thought would they have said the same thing if this was a man. I think that the answer would have been no, his looks probably would never even have played a part in the conversation.

So seriously folks let's analyze this for a moment while a lot of the male poker players are ok none of them are really like hunk a hunk of burning love material (Ok with the exception of Patrik Antonius, and maybe Phil Ivey ) but they really aren't judge on their appearance when playing poker, they are judged on their skills as poker players, they don't get their endorsements for their looks but on their skills as poker players, so why should we be judged on that. Also here is another example of that on-line and ladies if you have ever been a victim of this on line please let me know (hollar back). Example one is the on-line hit on, your on-line playing poker and suddenly it's not a pokerroom but an on-line dating site, where someone is oh are you married and at sometimes the extreme of sexual inuendo's I will not even begin to disclose, I mean come on guys seriously we are there for the same reasons that you are to play poker if we wanted a date or hook-up there are plenty of on-line sites where we could go to to get a real date. Number 2 and the one I find the funniest as well as the most irritating, I'm on fulltilt and I am playing with the busty avatar (I've since switched to the cat) where at one point on the final table I have some guy asking me "so are your boobs really that big", and telling me how I really turned him on. At this point I'm like dude it's an avatar do you get turned on by Betty Rubble and Wilma Flintstone too I mean geez come on I've also witnessed this happen to a lot of other women to on line where a lot of unnecessary comments where made about looks then as to poker play. I guess the moral of this story is guys we don't do this to you and you don't do it to each other so please, please, please don't do it to us show us a little bit more respect then this ok we respect you so please respect us.

So now on to lesson 2, that I have learned thus far and that I am still getting a lesson in and that is patience. This game takes a lot of patience, patience in waiting for a good hand or waiting for sometimes what can be 2 hours before you ever see another playable hand or even the patience not to just sometimes feeling like you've been doing this for so long and the results are not coming and your just ready to give up, it can also mean the patience in waiting for the all in donkey kong player whose got a billion in chips and he's bully betting everyone to either get taken off the table or getting the right cards to chip up through him or taking him off the table. Whatever the form that it comes in you have to sometimes have more of it in poker than anything else. Honestly there have been times where I thought over the past few weeks I'm just going to quit playing altogether this was too hard. Then I thought Lee you just have to get back up on the horse and keep on trying knowing that eventually I will someday get there. There have also been times where I have been at a table with some jerk who's just being rude to everyone where I have had to use patience not to say anything to this dumb person (whom quite frankly if this is the only arsenal they have then he's already a looser) but patience is quite definately useful and a must have in order to play poker in any way shape or form...

So that is it for this blog but today I make no promises with the exception of the fact that the next one will be soon.

Good Luck Everyone

Phil Ivey's not that hot. I have a bit of a thing for Trond Eidsvig though.

Interesting post. First of all let me start of by saying that I wish the best for you and your family. I know exactly where you are coming from, in regards to your post. I have been playing poker for a little over 4 years now, and every time I play at a site that displays my "real" avatar/pic, I tend to get a lot of crap from male players.

If anyone on the table ever gives me a compliment on my pic, there always has to be that one, that says, "Oh that's not her, I saw that pic in a magazine last week, or..Why would someone who looks like that be playing poker." Also, because I am of hispanic decent I get remarks like, I'll have some of that burrito.

To be honest I don't think it has anything to do with not giving women the credit they deserve on the tables. I think that maybe they might feel like women are a bit weaker and they think that they can get into your head and mess with your game more than they could with a man, because you ARE a woman and women are suppose to be "weaker" than men.

I don't let that CHIT get to me now, but I do admit when I first started playing it did. I play poker to win, and i'm not about to let some airhead mess with my game. I love the game and will play it as long as the good Lord allows me 2. My 2 cents, play your game, ignore the idiots and take all their chips!!!
