The Highs and Lows of Travelling - Part I

금요일, 6월 06, 2008 00:59

What a crazy two days it has been for me on my journey to this years World Series of Poker. It all started on Tuesday lunchtime when I met up with my close friend Ibs Durur for some lunch at Crown; nothing else but the famous food-court souvlaki could satisfy my hunger. With the clock ticking to just over 1pm I headed home leaving myself only 3 hours to pack for my 43 day stay in Las Vegas - yep that's right, I left things just a little late!!

With my intended ride not answering their phone, I consequently had to call on Ibs to give me a ride to the airport. Once parked, and after heading to the wrong counter not once but twice, we found the right check-in booth.

With a small time gap between my arrival in Sydney and my connecting flight to Toyko I was put on an earlier flight which would leave at 7pm instead of the intended 7:40pm. However once through to the departure lounge QF 1804 was no where to be found, and it wasn't until 6:40pm (the intended boarding time) that the flight popped up to display which gate to head to. Once there however time just kept ticking over and over, minute by minute, song by song on my iPod.

As my original flight departed, I was still stuck in gate 7 waiting. Approaching the ground crew didn't help either as they wouldn't even issue me my connecting flight ticket to Japan - such dog cunts!! Well, soon enough my flight departed a whole 2 hours late at 9pm and I was slowly on my way to Las Vegas.

However (of course there has to be another low!!) with the delays in leaving Melbourne, I arrived way too late for my connecting flight to Japan and had to again try and communicate with Qantas. Missing my flight they had no option but to put me on a flight the next day; and with that in mind they put me up for the night at the Mercure free of charge with dinner and breakfast included.

With a flight booked direct to San Francisco instead of connecting through Japan, I was ready to pick up my bag . . . however, Qantas told me that they had lost it!! Like WTF!! What the hell is going on today!! I was sent down to the baggage carousel to have a look for it, but was given only a slim chance of finding it. Well, they were right, no bag, no flight, but a pretty view of Erin McNaught before I was on my way to the Mercure for the night.

As I dozed off to the sounds of a boring test match between the West Indies and the Aussies, I was hoping for a better day tomorrow . . .
