Hailing from the city of Quezon in the Philippines, poker grinder Jose Acosta has now joined the 2008 Team PokerNews WSOP where he will have his first attempt and the world’s most prestigious poker tournament. He started playing poker three years ago. “After watching the movie Rounders, my friends and I decided to have regular low stakes cash games.” Now Jose plays poker both live and online with a liking towards No Limit and Pot Limit Texas Holdem. “I play more ring games but there has been a significant increase in my tournament entries in the last four months,” explains Jose. Winning a $12,500 Team PokerNews Package is Jose’s biggest poker success to date and he felt “stoked… I felt like I deserved to win after finishing 2nd in the same tournament two weeks before, I wanted it really bad.” He proceeded to celebrate by spending a night out drinking with friends. Jose has multiple interests including playing basketball, pool, paintball and go-karting. Coincidentally, a friend from his regular home game sessions also won the same Team PokerNews package two months prior to his win. “Two members of the 2008 Team PokerNews WSOP come from the same home game in the Philippines!
