Main Event Final Table; Go The CHUCK TRUCK!!
September 07, 2008Finally we reach the final table of the APPT Main Event and for once I have some interest in it. Charles 'Chucky' Chua is someone I've always known and heard stories about; but never knew who he was . . . until now.
During the APT main event a week previous I was introduced to him and instantly became good friends with him. We share a group of friends, so it is understandable that we should click too. After busting early during the APT main event he kicked on throught the APPT main event and is now positioned in fourth chip position on the final table.
Since me and Dave weren't needed we headed to the games arcade for a half hour or so and quickly blew 20mops playing drumming games, racing cars and shooting bad guys! Afterwards I ventured back to the baccarat tables where I took my original 2k buy-in and turned it into 7,000 mops. With an extra 5k in my pocket and a tourney starting I decided to give it a crack.
It was a 2,500 mops buy-in with an optional rebuy or add-on with a 5,000 starting bank. I sat down at table 14 seat 10 with Heath having a purchased 10% for a 15% share - I was feeling generous and also wanted some protection (even though it was only $500!!).
The first hand I played I limped with

and found a raiser in late position to 200. I was going to call until I saw a glimpse of the
as the big blind folded. Under-the-gun I sweated
and bumped it to 175. The action was folded round to a donkey in late position who raised it to 400. There was a caller in the big blind, so I called and we saw a flop of

. BB checked, I checked and then the donkey moved all-in for 5,000. BB folded and I snapped. However I was in shock when he tabled
for a flopped set. Of course the turn and river bricked out and I was forced to rebuy as I looked up at Lily in disbelief just shaking my head.We came back from the first break with blinds at 100-200 and with my stack at a very unhealthy 2,925. I won my first pot after flopping two-pair out of the small blind and leading 725 into the 800 and taking it down. I then got myself in a trickey spot. I opened to 800 with blinds at 150-300 and Lily moved all-in and was met with two callers. Having

I was forced to fold even though I only had 2,225 behind. The flop fell King -high and would have shipped the pot as I was up against J-J, A-Q and 9-9.I was dealt

under-the-gun and tried my luck again bumping it to 800. With one caller on my direct left I checked the YAHTZEE flop of

and when he put me all-in for my last 1,425 I double-fist-pump-snap called and was up against
. The turn and river bricked for him and I was back to 4,600.A few hands later a player in early position opened to 1,000 and I flatted with

in late position. The flop fell

and he led for 2,000 and I moved all-in for a further 1,450 - he called and tabled
. The turn fell the
and river the
and I doubled to 9,350.As we came back from the break with blinds at 200-400 an LAG opened to 1,200 and looking down at

I raised to 4,400 leaving myself only 1,400 behind. He went into the tank for sometime before putting me all-in with
. I called and of course the board ran out

and I was eliminated in 64th place out of the 96 runners.Tilting hard I headed back to baccarat and made a further 2k to make me feel a little better as I went to sweat Chucky. Me, Celina, Van and David Lee sweated Chuck as play hit heads-up, but the Chuck Truck couldn't overcome Edward Sabat as he collected 300k for his second-place finish.

APPT Main Event
September 07, 2008So its been a while since I last posted but its mainly due to covering the APPT Main Event over the past few days.
All in all it was a really well run tournament as the days were short as play only lasted seven levels with 10 minute breaks every second level.
However a recap of what has been going on over the past few days:
- learnt to play Baccarat; and now officially addicted
- partied at various places including D2 and Benelli's
- am yet to have a 'spa'
- did I mention I'm addicted to Baccarat . . .So every day seems to be standard so far. Wake up at 12 something, showever and catch a 20mop cab to work (about $3) and grab a food voucher for breakfast. Work for seven hours. Head to the buffet with another voucher. Play some baccarat, have a few quiet ones or go exploring. In bed by 3am.
As you can tell there is barely anytime for jumping online; and not having a computer over here doesn't help either.
However, here are some photos from my trip so far:
