WSOP preparation for Tiltanddestroy "Help me prepare myself in a better way"

Maandag, Mei 19, 2008 12:54

Hi guys,

As this will be my first big major tournament i have no idea how to prepare myself so i will ask you who have more live tournament experience to give me a hand to make the best of it. I have been watching live tournament video of some of the best players in the world to find out that even with the best hand this kind of tournament is a combination of good hand and great luck and great poker instinct. I guess my advantage there will be that since i won my spot through a freeroll it wont hurt as much to take a risk at some point and play agressively. That said imagine being face to face with a great name of poker and holding a great hand that can get beat with the river only and this card hit the board. How will i play those kind of hand will i be willing to risk it all to find out wheter my opponents was bluffing the river or will i give them credit only because of there name. Will i be able to put my personal ego on the side and let it go........... So much excitement for me to be part of this great poker tournament and i will be open to all your positive comment. Help me improve my live poker and give me your best tips.

Anyway whatever happen over there it will be the best sperience of my life thats for sure and i hope to make the best of it.

1st, congrats on winning your seat. Great job.

As far as prep goes, you'll have to give a bit more information as far as your live game experience.

I played in 2006 and the biggest thing that I would do different should I get the opportunity is I'd have more fun at the table. I stayed ultra serious the entire time and feel that I missed out on some things because of it.

Of course, you'll be a part of Team PokerNews so you have a big advantage on me when I played.

Just keep posting and I'm sure you'll get plenty of help.

Good luck.

Hi,

My plan (and I think it's good advice) is to arrive a few day early and play several smaller live tournaments to 'warm up' for the main event. I'm planning on playing event 52 - 1500 nl on the 30th, and Caesars was running $300 buyin events last time I was in Vegas.

Regards, Punter

This is good advice. This is why I'm wondering live tourney experience.

Cheers guys, I play every week live tournament but nothing to massive 80 players max. So this kind of tournament will be a lot bigger for me. I was planning on arriving on the 1st or second so i will check the event schedule and keep you guys updated. Also how do you play this for example with a pair of aces pre flop if 3 players all in i know the aces is the best hand pre flop but how many tie a pair of deuce or 4 board and kick us out of a tourney any recdommendation on this matter only play strong hand if you allow to see the flop and they are great or be prepare to race someone with a high pocket.

OK, the 80 max tourneys don't help that much except that it shows that you do have live tourney experience. You'd be surprised but there will be players in the Main Event that have NEVER played live. They're fun to watch.

It depends on what day your Day 1 is to judge how good arriving on the 2nd would be. Shoot for Day 1c or Day 1d. That'll give you recovery time from the party on the 2nd and it'll let you go and watch some of the Day 1a or 1b to get a feel for the room and tourney.

Getting AA with 3 all ins before you.....if I were a betting man (and I am) I'd bet that doesn't happen. But if it did, early on, I'd probably have to push to try to quad up. Then it would be smooth sailing to the $$$$. Playing with a big stack early would be sweet. Going home with the story of how you got put out with AA on Day 1, kinda crappy but better than how you could have quadded your stack if only you'd had the balls to call with AA. Anyway, you'll be surprised at how tight this tourney plays to start.

Oh, another question. Book help. What books have you studied? If it was me and I hadn't read them, I'd pick up Harrington on Holdem I & II and Kill Everyone. Both good tourney books. If you haven't read them, they may open your eyes to a couple of new ideas.
